Seeking Full-Time or Locum Hospitalist (Family Medicine and Internal Medicine) – Guelph, Ontario.

Location: Guelph General Hospital (GGH) is located less than 1 hour west of the Greater Toronto Area.

There is an offer of up to 4 recruitment/relocation incentives of $10,000 for signing on for 6 months of 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) schedule, or $25,000 for 12 months of 1.0 FTE schedule. Please note that nights are an expectation of a 1.0 FTE position.

We are looking for Acute Care Hospitalists for full-time, part-time, and locum work at Guelph General Hospital (GGH). The Department of Hospitalist Medicine is seeking to fill available positions starting in April 2026 onwards.

Remuneration: $500 weekday/$610 weekend base daily stipend + FFS billings + retention of 17% premium (if eligible); night coverage is funded by HOCC stipend + FFS (17:00h-08:00h). Our billing clerk will handle billings at no cost and there is no overhead.
For those looking to pick up occasional/additional work, we have a new “Admissionist” line centered on evening ER admissions from 16:00h-23:00h/00:00h funded by the $500 weekday/$610 weekend stipend + FFS billing, which can be staffed by FM or IM specialists.
Our acute care hospitalist group is composed of both FM and IM-trained physicians. FM +1 fellowship is not required, and new graduates are welcome! Mentorship can be available for those who may be looking to expand their scope of practice, if currently centered around comprehensive care or in other focused practice areas.

Schedule: The regular schedule for full-time hospitalists is usually 2 weeks of days (including 1-2 weekends within those 2 weeks), a week off, and a week including 1-3 nights (home call is in option for those within 20 minutes of the site). For those seeking locum work, we expect that each week of days is accompanied by 1 weekend and 1 night (may or may not be within the week of days, if you are travelling from out of town).

EMR: Currently Patient Keeper + Meditech; hospital exploring new HIS in the future.
During the first couple of weeks, new hires also have the option of starting off with a smaller-sized list, which will gradually be increased to a standard size (averaging around 16-24 patients daily).

We are a supportive and collegial group. Guelph General Hospital is a medium-sized hospital with a closed ICU covered by Intensivists. We have a range of Internal Medicine and Surgical specialties. There is access to MRI, CT, XR, US, nuclear imaging, select interventional radiology procedures, and 24-hour labs. There is an optional opportunity to teach Family Medicine residents.
Our team provides general medical care for stable adult inpatients ages 18+ (acute and chronic issues). We do not provide care to Pediatric nor ICU/step down unit patients.
