Grimsby (Rural Stream) overview
The academic hub for Grimsby is the Niagara Regional Campus in St. Catharines, Ontario.
The Grimsby rural site is situated in the midst of Niagara’s wine country, on the shores of Lake Ontario. The West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is the ‘home hospital’ for this community. Obstetrics is done longitudinally with Family Medicine, with call shifts taking place locally in Grimsby and in the larger centre of St. Catharines. Other specialty rotations are done either in Hamilton (30-40 minutes away) or St. Catharines (20 minutes away).
Program highlights
There are several diverse family practices in Grimsby as well as the surrounding communities of Smithville and Beamsville. All local physicians see their own inpatients, do prenatal care, do house calls and care for palliative patients at home or in hospice. The West Lincoln Memorial Hospital is largely community run with family physicians covering the ER, providing obstetrical services and GP anesthesia will collegial support from 4 internists, 3 OBGYN and 1 general surgeon.
