Palliative Care

The philosophy of the enhanced skills palliative care program is to provide the resident with a broad and inclusive experience gaining skills and expertise in a palliative approach to care and an opportunity to work on their research, academic and leadership skills. The program will include experience in a number of palliative care settings – hospital, hospice, home, outpatient clinics, etc. It will include both radiation oncology and medical oncology blocks and some focused palliative care elective time. Each block has unique features that give the resident exposure to patients with a wide variety of palliative care needs. This program is accredited by the College of Family Physicians (CFPC) and will be offered to residents nationally.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The resident will have varied exposure to management of pain and other symptoms, psychosocial care of patients and their families and interprofessional teamwork.
