The Community Paramedicine at clinic program (CP@clinic) Expansion to British Columbia
CP@clinic has expanded to British Columbia! The program was recently highlighted by Global News BC.
In December 2021, Dr. Gina Agarwal and the McMaster Community Paramedicine Research Team partnered with BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) to implement CP@clinic. A recent impact report found that there was a relative reduction in EMS calls by 38% during the 1 year pilot phase of the CP@clinic program in Ted Kuhn Towers, which amounted to an estimated cost savings of $99,000 to $440,000 (depending on the proportion of participants being transported to the Emergency Department and hospitalization rates). The report also found that systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly for participants by the 4th CP@clinic visit. BCEHS plans to adopt CP@clinic as the standard CP wellness program across the province of BC, and is scaling out to other buildings in Surrey. The McMaster team is evaluating the scale out of CP@clinic with funding from Health Canada.
