President’s Award recognizes department staff member for outstanding service
For the second year in a row, a member of the Department of Family Medicine has been awarded The President’s Awards for Outstanding Service. Krzysztof “Kris” Adamczyk, manager, IT, has received the university’s highest honour for significant contributions to the department, university and leadership in health technology.
The President’s Awards is an annual recognition which highlights outstanding contributions beyond what is normally expected. Kris’ impact is reflected in the numerous letters of support from across the department and key leaders at the university.
Since joining the department in 2004, and becoming the IT lead in 2006, Kris has provided IT support to over 300 staff and four clinics, managed a Tier 3 data centre housing over 40,000 patient records, led a team of IT professionals and built custom apps and tools. He has also been involved in developing and implementing various IT projects that have greatly enhanced the department’s capabilities. Kris’ can-do attitude has fueled a culture in our department that sees possibilities. His friendly, patient and kind demeanour make him an outstanding collaborator and valued colleague.
The Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University is recognized as the birthplace of the OSCAR electronic medical records (EMR) software which is now one of the leading EMRs in Canada. Kris was integral to this achievement by securing ISO 13485:2003 certification compliance and enabling our department to be at the forefront of clinically-driven digital health innovation. Kris has also welcomed and delivered IT solutions for challenges or opportunities in education and research, making him a key collaborator in the majority of the department’s strategic initiatives.
“Our department’s ability to seize innovation opportunities over the last decade has been directly related to our confidence in Kris’ ability to deliver and his willingness to be open to new challenges,” said Tracey Carr, executive director, Department of Family Medicine.
Kris’ knowledge of the latest and newest technology has made him a trend setter and idea leader within McMaster. The department was among the first to adopt Microsoft SharePoint and quickly became the experts thanks to Kris’ innovation and creativity.
“Kris’ expertise and commitment to supporting innovation has been at the forefront of his success with the early adoption and development of Microsoft SharePoint sites,” says Gayleen Gray, assistant vice-president and chief technology officer. “Kris delivered an excellent SharePoint site in support of the Department of Family Medicine in the early stages of the Microsoft roll out on campus, providing a model for other departments across campus.”
