The department announces new senior leadership roles to support faculty
The Department of Family Medicine is pleased to confirm the appointment of Dale Guenter as the Faculty Experience Director and Keyna Bracken as the Faculty Development Director.
Dr. Dale Guenter joined the department in 1999 as an assistant professor and has held several leadership roles, including co-Unit Director of McMaster Family Practice and Primary Care Lead for the Hamilton Central Health Link. Guenter holds a master’s in Public Health from Harvard University and is a physician with the Shelter Health Network and the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre. In addition to his decades of experience teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Guenter works closely with the Master of Public Health program at McMaster, developing and coordinating courses and acting as a thesis supervisor.
The Faculty Experience Director is responsible for all aspects of the faculty journey in our department, including recruitment, orientation, appointment, reappointment, tenure and promotion, engagement, coaching and mentorship, evaluation and is an advocate in all matters relating to the individual and collective experience of faculty members.
Dr. Keyna Bracken is an associate professor in the department and a recognized leader in undergraduate education. She is both the current Chair of Pre-Clerkship and the Director of the Longitudinal Clerkship Experience for the Undergraduate Medical School and was formerly the Undergraduate Director and PGY-3 Enhanced Skills Director for our department. Clinically, she is a family physician at McMaster Family Practice and was the Physician Director of the Maternity Centre of Hamilton from 2008 to 2015. Bracken has a wealth of experience in curriculum development, program revision, the development of modules and other teaching materials.
The Faculty Development Program Director will work in tandem with the Faculty Experience Director and alongside the educational and research leadership to lead and coordinate the faculty development activities in the department, including across the various sites and divisions.
