Dr. Inge Schabort wins 2021 PARO Excellence in Teaching Award
Congratulations to Dr. Inge Schabort who is the recipient of the 2021 PARO Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching — an award that publicly acknowledge the essential role that good clinical teachers play in training new physicians.
Recipients are selected based on their passion for, and quality of, teaching: being a positive role model, interest in their trainees’ personal development and well-being, as well as the ability to relate to and appreciate patient needs (and more). Schabort exemplifies all of these.
Schabort came to the department as a resident in 2001, and is now an Associate Professor, the International Medical Graduate (IMG) Coordinator and Academic Half Day Coordinator at the Department of Family Medicine, McMaster University. She practices as a full-time family physician at Stonechurch Family Health Centre and tutors Evidence-Based Medicine, Quality Improvement and Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences in the residency program. She sits on the CaRMS Board of Directors. Schabort recently completed a Masters degree in Health Professions Education (MHPE) at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands and is currently working on her dissertation for a degree in Evidence Based Health Care from Oxford University in the UK.
