TAPER RCT moving into analysis phase
The large-scale TAPER RCT has now completed recruitment and the final patient follow up is imminent! Many recruitment obstacles have been overcome over the course of this project, most notably the shift to entirely remote data collection in the wake of COVID-19.
Initial results from a linkage between TAPER and the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) show a strong relationship between the TAPER evidence screens for cumulative side effect burdens and negative patient outcomes.
Several implementation and feasibility projects using the TAPER clinical pathways are currently underway in Australia and New Zealand. TAPER is also being trialed in long-term care facilities in Ontario, Australia and New Zealand.
The manuscript on theoretical underpinnings of TAPER has been published. Analysis on patient goals and priorities has begun and the team hopes to submit papers around this most important building block of TAPER soon. The final results manuscript is also underway.
The TAPER team is excited to jump into the analysis phase, and looks forward to sharing the results from this exciting research project in the near future!
