The Canadian Atlas of Palliative Care: Ontario Edition is now available

The second provincial edition of the Atlas is now available for Ontario.
Palliative Care Atlases consolidate provincial and regional data in a single, interactive, and accessible resource. They offer a comprehensive view across domains including policy, services, focused populations, education, and professional development. They can equip government leaders and health system planners with the information needed to drive more equitable access to palliative care.
Key findings include:
- Ontario has multiple frameworks to guide palliative care service delivery across the province
- There is a proportionally lack of palliative care beds (e.g., palliative care beds, hospice beds)
- Access to palliative care is mostly delivered by specialist palliative care teams and access to specialist care services is highest in urban centres.
- Access to palliative care is a significant challenge for pediatric patients and other underserved populations
- There is a strong palliative care research community across the province within university-affiliated centres
This project was completed as part of the Dr. Joshua Shadd Pallium Canada Research Hub.
One more provincial Atlas for Alberta will be released later this year.
