The Emergency Medicine Researchers of Niagara (EMRoN) is a research group affiliated with the Niagara Regional Campus of McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and Niagara Health. EMRoN focuses on advancing emergency medicine research, aligning with the strategic priorities of its partner organizations to enhance research capacity and improve patient care in the Niagara region.
EMRoN is involved in several significant studies. For instance, they are examining health outcomes for COVID-19 patients in Ontario’s ICUs, comparing data from academic and community hospitals. Another notable study explores the role of community hospitals in clinical research, aiming to develop a national strategy to expand clinical research in these settings. Additionally, they are working on reducing opioid prescriptions in emergency departments and surgical units to improve patient safety and outcomes. EMRoN also participates in randomized Phase III clinical trials to better understand the standard of care in radiation therapy.
The team includes key researchers such as Dr. Stephenson Strobel and Clinical Research Nurse Corinne Mitges.
Together, these researchers and their studies contribute to the broader effort of enhancing emergency medicine research and improving patient care in the Niagara region and beyond.
