PEACH Health Ontario continues to advance sustainability in health care

PEACH Health Ontario continues to advance sustainability in health care with several key initiatives. We are excited to host our first PEACH Conference on May 21, focusing on Sustainability and Primary Care. Additionally, three publications are set for release in spring/summer 2025 (Two in Canadian Family Medicine Journal, one in Healthcare Management Forum).
We have strengthened collaborations with the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care and Hamilton Family Health Team, working together on projects such as the Circular Clinical Care: reducing single-use plastics in Health Care, Healthy Capital: sustainable investment for hospital foundations, Preparing Canada’s Health Care Buildings for Net-Zero, and the Green Office Challenge.
Several new sustainability-focused guidebooks have been developed, covering topics like radiotherapy, intensive care, cardiovascular care, greenspaces in healthcare, and climate emergency preparedness. Early 2025 also marked the launch of our Home Care Committee and we have begun developing a guidebook on this topic. We also launched a Webinar Series this year —the next session, on April 24, focusing on sustainable conferences and event planning.
On the funding front, we successfully secured a CIHR Catalyst Grant and contributed to additional grant applications, including a SSHRC submission in March. Our team is growing, with a Research Assistant and MPH practicum student joining in spring 2025.
