New Prison Health Research Council established to directly engage people with lived experience of incarceration in research
The Prison Health Research Council has created a space to directly engage people with lived experience of incarceration in research that is about them, beyond just being participants. Through fall 2023 the DFM team worked with Amplify Engagement to develop plans and recruit Council members. Now with 12 members with lived experience of incarceration and diverse socio-demographic characteristics and life experiences, the Council has been meeting in virtual monthly meetings since January.
The key goals of the Council are: to contribute to and give feedback on prison health research projects, to explore opportunities to co-develop research, to share resources and opportunities, to expand knowledge across sectors to understand the realities of health and health care in prison, and to advocate for the health of people who are still in prison or recently released.
