Evaluating the impact of an integrated care program for individuals with substance use disorder in pregnancy
The Maternity Centre of Hamilton Program for Substance Use in Pregnancy (PROSPR) is an integrated care program that combines prenatal and addiction medicine care for individuals with a substance use disorder in pregnancy. Substance use disorders involve a cluster of cognitive, behavioural and psychological symptoms indicating that substance use continues despite significant substance-related problems. Patients seen in the PROSPR program are reported to have increasing social and medical complexities (e.g., impacts of COVID-19, fentanyl) and providers are increasingly experiencing resource gaps to deliver prenatal care and mental health services, address patients’ social needs and support community and system navigation. Therefore, the PROSPR program requires an up-to-date assessment to describe the complexity of its patient population and identify and address current health system use. The team is currently developing and piloting the study’s EMR data abstraction tool created in RedCap. The results will highlight the impacts of the PROSPR program on this very important patient population.
